<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article studies the theoretical and practical aspects of the development ofTaiwan’s residents’ national identity. The analysis is based on the results of recent opinion polls which studied the trends in identity change of the Taiwanese people, their preferences and views on relations with mainlandChina. An attempt was made to establish a correlation between the changing identity, the wish of the majority of the population to maintain the status quo in relations with the PRC and the level of support of the political independence ofTaiwan. The article shows that the share of those inTaiwanwho identify as “Taiwanese” has been increasing over the last decades. At the same time, the belief thatTaiwanis an independent state has also been strengthening. The authors analyse the internal and external factors that influenced the dynamics of identity change and the attitudes towards the problems of the status ofTaiwanon the island over the last two years.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>политический статус Тайваня</kwd><kwd>национальное государство</kwd><kwd>КНР</kwd><kwd>тайваньская идентичность</kwd><kwd>самоидентификация</kwd><kwd>социологические опросы</kwd><kwd>сепаратизм и национализм</kwd><kwd>статус-кво</kwd><kwd>пандемия коронавируса</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>political status of Taiwan</kwd><kwd>nation state</kwd><kwd>PRC</kwd><kwd>Taiwanese identity</kwd><kwd>opinion polls</kwd><kwd>separatism</kwd><kwd>status quo</kwd><kwd>Covid 19 pandemic</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Статья подготовлена при поддержке гранта РФФИ 20-51407003 «Проблемы развития российско-южноосетинских отношений и интеграционных инициатив в условиях экономических и дипломатических ограничений»</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="en">The article was prepared with the support of the RFBR grant 20-514-07003 «Problems of the development of Russian-South Ossetian relations and integration initiatives in the conditions of economic and diplomatic restrictions»</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Барышников В.Н.
